This past weekend, the NPF’s Back To School Tour made a more important stop than any of the others on the agenda for the College Tour. The All-Stars of the NPF payed an extremely emotional visit to St. Judes Childrens Research Hospital. It was very important to the NPF to show, that they to are in support of the life saving work that the doctors and nurses of St. Judes to to help these kids try and live the lives that they are suppose to be living. It was way more than the players donating their time and talent to visit these kids, it was an experience that all of them will never forget. How could anyone really forget?

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering research and treatment of children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Ranked one of the best pediatric cancer hospitals in the country, St. Jude is the first and only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center devoted solely to children. The children of St. Judes are in a fight for their lives every day, and with the help of the country and most of all families and doctors, the kids lives are immediately better.

USSSA Pride Centerfielder and Olympic Team Member Caitlin Lowe spoke about the experience:

It was right after a long travel day but the kids put huge smiles on our faces when we walked in. They were so happy to talk with us and get autographs. We signed for about 30 minutes for all the patients and their families.

We took a tour of the hospital where they told us that they were strictly run on donations. It actually costs over a million dollars per day to run that one hospital! This is why it is so important to spread the word about what they are doing. They have a policy where they won’t turn away any patient. They cover travel, housing, and all bills for patients and their families. It really is an amazing program.

As a special treat we got to meet a huge softball fan right after her bone marrow transplant. Her name was Maddie and she’s amazing. After the long procedure all she cared about was talking softball with the team. She’s the definition of a true competitor and really an inspiration to all of us.
